Just An Idea

Since the offseason for the Rockets has officially began, I've been spending some time on ESPN.com's NBA Trade Machine. Billy sent me a few trades earlier, but I'll let him post them. I was thinking about trading Tracy Mcgrady and his expiring contract for Kevin Martin, Andres Nocioni and his contract that nobody wants to pay, and some other filler, such as Beno Udrih. We would include Brooks in this trade if we had to (just listen to me before getting out the pitchforks and torches).

Now we would let go of Ron Artest and resign Von Wafer while also signing Ramon Sessions. For those of you who don't know, Sessions averaged 12 assists a game last April until being banished to the bench this year. He had some moments of brilliance (find them yourself) when he received playing time, but for the majority of the year his minutes were thrown around. He is a true point guard who can drive and dish, or in other words, another Kyle Lowry. Now I know that right now you're thinking two thoughts: "Why would we want another point guard who does exactly what our current backup point guard does?" and "Why the hell would be replace our starter with a clone of our backup?" I have three reasons:

1) Yes, he does do what Kyle Lowry does, but the thing is, he's better at it
2) If one Lowry is this good, imagine how dangerous two could be.
3) As much as I love Aaron Brooks, he's not going to become a superstar. He's very good now, and he'll probably get a little more controlled with experience, but it's going to take a while. We don't have time to wait for him, because let's face it, Yao's feet aren't getting any younger.

Yeah, Sessions would be in a fight with Lowry for the starting spot, but a little friendly competition never hurt anyone. Or any team, for that matter. And if we had any money leftover, we could always sign Big Baby. So here's our new lineup:

Starters
PG - Ramon Sessions/Kyle Lowry
SG - Kevin Martin
SF - Shane Battier
PF - Luis Scola
C - Yao Ming

Bench
PG - Ramon Sessions/Kyle Lowry/Beno Udrih
SG - Von Wafer
SF - Andres Nocioni
PF - Carl Landry
C - Chuck Hayes (or hopefully even Glen Davis)

Now how does that team not win the championship? Assuming we were able to get Davis, we would have 10 players who would have significant roles on most NBA teams, if not be starters. It'd be very difficult for all of it to happen, but just imagine if it did. On that note, I'll leave you to ponder our potential greatness and/or why I have nothing better to spend my time on than hypothetical situations for a team that's already done playing. And if you still want to, you're now welcome to round up the villagers and storm my house to commit whatever vicious crimes, misdeeds, and acts of violence that you so choose to.

  1. Okay I personally hate this I don't think the Rockets need to make any trades, the McGrady one is debatable and no team would probably want him any way. The Rockets should just resign Artest and Wafer, and why in the world would we trade Brooks he a rising star getting better every game. I say we keep the same line up and when McGrady comes back we have him come off the bench with Wafer (that would be dominant). Getting Big Babby Davis would be helpful but what would be better is getting Yi Jianlian so we can have some Chinnese Olympic team chemistry in the post.

  2. i don't think big baby davis is a viable option for us. he doesn't rebound (only 5.6 boards in 36.4 mpg in the playoffs) and all he does is shoot midrange jumpers (we already have posts that do this with Luis and Carl). he doesn't really fill a need for us. however, i do agree with trading tmac

  3. 3 Team Trade:
Rockets Trade: T-mac and Kyle Lowry
Rockets Get: Marcus Camby and Jamal Crawford

LAC Trade: Baron Davis and Marcus Camby
LAC Get: T-Mac and Kyle Lowry

    Golden State Trades: Jamal Crawford
    Godlen State Gets: Baron Davis

LAC gets rid of B Diddys horrible shooting % and his huge contract and pick up an expiring contract and "star" in T-Mac. They also pick up a young PG in Lowry who could start for them and they get rid of one of their big men to make room for Blake Griffin. Houston gets rid of T-Mac and picks up a good shooter in Jamal Crawford and a great back up for Yao in Camby. Golden State gets rid of Crawford, who didnt get along well with Coach Nelson, and get back B Diddy

Resign: Von Wafer and Ron Artest
Sign: Lindsey Hunter, Juan Dixon and Rasho Nesterovich
Trade: Joey Dorsey and Brian Cook for a draft pick to a team trying to get expiring contract/young players for 2010

    PG: Aaron Brooks/Lindsey Hunter/Juan Dixon
    SG: Jamal Crawford/Von Wafer/Brent Barry
    SF: Ron Artest/Shane Battier/James White
    PF: Luis Scola/Carl Landry/Chuck Hayes
    C: Yao Ming/Marcus Camby/Rasho Nesterovich

Thats a championship team. With Jamal Crawford, Artest knows that he doesn't have to shoot the ball every time. Lindsey Hunter is a great back up for Brooks because hes a veteran who looks to move the ball and plays great Defense. Juan Dixon hasn't really developed into the sorta player everyone thought he'd be but hes a good third option and Jamal Crawford can play PG if needed. Marcus Camby is an amazing defender and will be a great back up for Yao. Rasho Nesterovich isn't too special but is good insurance in case Yao or Camby goes down. (AND HES 7FT)
